Update for Kingsway Community Residents, Families and Staff

April 1, 2020 - 4:00pm

At Kingsway Community our number one priority is and has always been the safety and well-being of those in our care.  Kingsway Community continues to be guided by recommendations from state and federal authorities regarding COVID 19, also referred to as coronavirus.

As you know the situation is evolving and we will continue to make operational modifications as is prudent and necessary.  It’s important to note that there is no mingling of residents between buildings on our campus, and we communicate all COVID 19 related issues with the appropriate stakeholders as necessary.

The following are some of the infection prevention and control measures we have taken to limit the exposure of our residents to infection, ward against community transmission, and continue to ensure both the mental well-being and highest quality of life for our residents.

KINGSWAY ARMS SKILLED NURSING CENTER

  • On Tuesday, March 10, we suspended all visitation, until further notice.  We do allow for extreme exceptions, such as end-of-life and these rare cases are only permitted with prior approval from our clinical managers.
  • We have a community-wide Special Infection Prevention & Control Task Force that meets by conference call every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and includes specialists, managers and directors from each of our five living facilities and our eight services areas (skilled nursing, rehabilitation, assisted living, memory care, senior apartments, home care, adult day care, respite and transportation).
  • We have instituted rigorous screening procedures for every entrant into our facility, at each time of entry regardless of length of time outside the building.  This applies to all employees, regardless of role, and medically necessary service personnel.  Screening includes hand sanitizing, monitored hand washing, temperature scan, and questions on the full range of virus-related symptoms, and the required wearing of facial masks, starting at point of entry.  Masks are worn when assisting residents and at any time an employee could come within 6 feet of a resident when going about their duties.
  • We have instituted social distancing measures in every element of our resident’s daily activity.  This includes closure of dining rooms and modifications to every recreation activity.  We have eliminated all group activities.  Further, any necessary gathering of employees is limited in numbers whenever possible.  Staff eating areas are following social distancing guidelines as well.
  • Every staff member has completed infection prevention technique training in just the past 2 weeks. We use tools like Clorox® Total 360® System electrostatic sprayers, EPA-approved disinfectants and rigorous adherence to proper cleaning techniques.
  • Regular remote visitation, using phone and Facetime, has been instituted so that Kingsway Arms residents can connect with loved ones.  Please contact Rachel Caracciolo at 518-579-5461.
  • We are conducting as many business processes as possible by mail and phone thus limiting the need for employees to meet or make unnecessary trips across buildings, or across campus.
  • Each new admission is carefully screened prior to coming on campus and isolated for 14 days.  They are also closely monitored for symptoms multiple times per day.
  • Isolation protocols are vetted and established, and procedures for handling any suspected cases of viral infection have been reviewed and comply with the latest guidance from state and federal authorities.
  • We are working with Schenectady County Office of Emergency Preparedness to ensure we have personal protective equipment (also known as PPE).

KINGSWAY MANOR ASSISTED LIVING & MEMORY CARE CENTER
