Capital Region Classical Celebrates 50 Years

Did you know that Schenectady is home to a classical concert series that regularly brings internationally renowned musicians to perform the exact same programs they perform at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, but for a fraction of the ticket price? And did you know that that concert series has been around for a whopping 50 years?

In 1971, the Schenectady Museum (now MiSci) founded the Schenectady Museum-Union College Concert Series, which brought world-class classical acts to perform at the college’s Memorial Chapel.  To date, internationally renowned musicians, including Emanuel Ax, Mitsuko Uchida, Ian Bostridge and the Emerson String Quartet, have all performed in the series, which was known as the Union College Concert Series until 2019. T hat’s when the series became an independent, registered not-for-profit called Capital Regional Classical.  Though the name did change, the series has continued to bring 15 or so acts to Memorial Chapel and other local venues each year.  The 2021-22 season is already in full swing, but there’s still plenty of time to get your classical music fix in the Capital Region. Here’s a list of the upcoming Classical Region Classical shows, all of which begin at 3pm unless otherwise stated:
