Jillian Olsen, Director of Nursing at Kingsway Manor Assisted Living & Memory Care Center, finds meaning and purpose in a career that engages her interests, passions and values!
1. How long have you been at Kingsway?
I’ve been at Kingsway since April 2018, so almost five years.
2. What did you do before coming to Kingsway?
I’ve been in healthcare for more than 20 years. As a nurse, I’ve worked in orthopedics, critical care, and central line management.
3. Briefly describe your job.
I’m in charge of the nursing department, ensuring all resident care needs are addressed and overseeing staff and regulatory compliance. I’ve found that one of the best ways to provide the right care at the right time is to first get to know each resident, and carefully listen to their concerns, as they may be dealing with challenging physical and emotional changes.
4. What do you love most about working at Kingsway?
Working at Kingsway is gratifying in many ways, in particular I value the strong teamwork and collaborative atmosphere we have across all departments, not just among my nursing team. From Dining Services to Laundry to my Nursing staff, we take time to know each resident as well as their family members. Over the years I’ve got to know some very special people!
5. Why would you recommend Kingsway to a friend or family member?
In my many years of working in healthcare and senior living, I know Kingsway is unique as a family-owned and operated residential healthcare setting that offers a full continuum of care. My staff and I work together to make informed decisions without multiple levels of management. We have daily calls to check in on what's happening at each residence so we can collaborate and anticipate and be ready to help meet the needs of residents across our campus. I think this is at the heart of why we provide the best care possible.
6. What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I have two teenagers who keep me busy. I love to travel, read, work out, and spend time with family and friends.
7. Why do you do what you do?
I started my career as a nursing assistant and have always enjoyed the hands-on experience of caring for patients and residents. If I’m not in my office, I’m assisting the staff and working directly with residents. I can look forward to each day knowing that I work with a team of caregivers who share my strong commitment to supporting each resident’s highest level of quality of life.
